Michael joined INVO as an Invention Associate in June 2021. He works with researchers at Northwestern to protect their innovative work through patents and license new technologies to commercial partners. Michael manages a diverse portfolio of inventions spanning a wide array of life science fields, including synthetic biology, medical devices, therapeutics, and research tools. Before joining INVO, Michael was a graduate student in the physiology department at Northwestern University, where he worked to understand how dysfunctional neuronal microcircuits contribute to temporal lobe epilepsy. Michael also previously participated in the INVO Practicum, where he evaluated the patentability, marketability, and commercialization potential of new Northwestern inventions.

Michael earned his B.A. in Biology from Lake Forest College and his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Northwestern University. He has published numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers on a variety of neuroscience topics, including epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease. Outside of the office, he enjoys roasting coffee, building computers, and cycling.
